The controls

Four knobs, two buttons, eight jacks. That’s it.

On the panelWhat it does
DUTY 1 / DUTY 2 (lit keycaps)Press to step that voice’s wave shape through the four settings the original chip offered: 12.5%, 25%, 50% and 75% pulse width, in that order. The cap’s colour shows which one is active, and it flares with the envelope.
TUNE 1 / TUNE 2Base pitch of each voice, six octaves of range.
DECAYHow long every note rings, from a click to about two seconds. Shared by both voices.
CRUSHHow much digital damage to add, from none to wrecked. Shared by both voices.
GATE 1 / GATE 2Trigger inputs. A pulse here strikes the note at full volume; it then dies away over the decay time.
VOCT 1 / VOCT 2Pitch inputs, one volt per octave, 0 to 10 V. Patch a keyboard or a sequencer. Added to the TUNE knob.
DUTY (jack)Bends both voices’ wave shape up or down from their keycap setting. Takes a ±5 V signal.
CRUSH (jack)Adds to or subtracts from the CRUSH knob. Takes a ±5 V signal.
OUT 1 / OUT 2One output per voice, at Eurorack level (±5 V).

The two modulation jacks, DUTY and CRUSH, are centred: nothing plugged in means no modulation, a positive voltage pushes up from the knob or keycap setting and a negative voltage pulls down. The jacks are wired so that an empty socket reads as zero modulation, so there is nothing to null out when you unpatch.

There is no attack control and no sustain. Every note starts at full volume on the trigger and decays. Pitch slides, vibrato and anything else that moves over time have to come from the patch, through the VOCT and DUTY jacks.

Three patches to start with

A power chord. Set TUNE 2 a fifth above TUNE 1. Patch the same trigger into GATE 1 and GATE 2, and the same pitch into VOCT 1 and VOCT 2. Every hit is a two-note chord. Set the keycaps to different widths for a thicker one.

Bass and lead. Set TUNE 2 an octave above TUNE 1. Patch a sequencer’s two outputs to the two VOCT jacks and alternate the triggers, so the voices take turns. Voice 1 holds the bass line, voice 2 plays the lead. Short decay on both keeps it tight.

One broken lead. Same pitch into both VOCT jacks, same trigger into both gates, keycaps on two different widths, and turn CRUSH up. Patch a slow modulation source into the DUTY jack so the wave shape drifts under both voices at once. Take both outputs, or just one.

Half of the instrument is in how the two voices relate, and all of that is in the patch cables. The module itself has nothing to configure.
